Giving back to our community, both locally and globally
As an orthodontic practice that services people of all ages and from all walks of life, at CCC Smiles we like to think that we’re pretty well connected to our local community. From school kids to their grandparents, we love getting to know everyone that we have the opportunity to work with.
“The relationship doesn’t end when the orthodontics finish – we like to go the extra mile to give back to the community! At CCC Smiles, we pride ourselves in being involved in the wellbeing of the people we know and work with. In fact, I’ve always said that CCC Smiles is not just a business that operates in a community, but that we are part of the fabric of the community.
As such, we feel strongly about issues that affect our patients, our neighbouring businesses, our local schools and other organisations. Whenever possible, we like to show our support for their endeavours, from local sports teams to global environmental initiatives.
One local team that we are proud to partner with is Mosman Netball Club, which is a wonderful community-run sporting association that gives girls of all ages the opportunity to play a sport that provides fun, fitness and teamwork. It is fantastic to see the girls on the court (and to see the CCC Smiles logo on their shirts!) – and of course, whenever we treat any of them or their families, they know they’re going to get an extra warm welcome!
We treat a lot of kids in the community, many of them with Invisalign, and the amount of time we spend with young people has really made us appreciate how precious they are, and what wonderful things they will be able to achieve in the future, given the right opportunities. Not all kids are fortunate enough to have strong guidance in their lives, however, which is why CCC Smiles also supports Raise, a youth mentoring movement that strives to ensure that young Australians feel heard, valued and supported. The work they do is truly inspiring, and we are thrilled to have recently contributed over $6,000 to their very worthwhile efforts.
Looking beyond our local community, but with the needs of kids still at heart, we are honoured to also be able to spread smiles further afield, globally in fact, through our support of Smile Train. This remarkable charity trains medical practitioners in developing countries to perform cleft palate repair procedures, which enables far more operations to be carried out than would be possible by sending volunteer dental professionals over to these countries. Every time one of our clients refers a friend or family member that goes on to have treatment with us, CCC Smiles donates a life-changing surgery for a child in need of cleft palate correction. Our lives are dedicated to helping more people smile, and for these kids the difference to their life opportunities and outcomes is almost beyond comprehension – opening the doors to education, employment and social acceptance.
Another international initiative that we have been inspired by is Atlantic Ambition, being spearheaded by CCC Smiles patient Jon Merotra. Along with three friends, Jon is raising funds to tackle the problem of plastic pollution of our seas by rowing almost 5,000km across the Atlantic Ocean – deemed by many to be the toughest route on the planet. Rather him than us, we say, but we are very proud of Jon, and happy to throw the support of the CCC Smiles community behind him and his team!
We are proud to be an active part of our community, and to support the many within it who selflessly seek to improve life for others, both locally and around the world.
